U.S. Congressman. In Bath, New Hampshire, he was owner-operator of a lumber mill and was a Deputy Sheriff of Grafton County (1824-25). He also served as paymaster and Colonel of the 32d Regiment of the New Hampshire Militia. Entering politics, he was a member of the New Hampshire State Senate in 1839 and State Councilor (1842-45). In 1845, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses, serving until 1849. After leaving Congress, he resumed his previous business interests until his death.
