U.S. Congressman. In 1848 with his father he relocated to Delaware and managed a large farming estate in Kenton. Entering politics, he was a member of the Delaware State House of Representatives (1856-1862), served in the Delaware State Senate (1866, 1871) and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1872. In 1875 he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1879. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death.
