John Hatch
John Hatch, an old and highly respected resident of South Salem, died at his home Monday afternoon. While he had been in poor health for nearly a year, the end came unexpectedly, as he was no worse until Sunday afternoon when he appeared drowsy, and peacefully went to sleep to awaken in a better Land.
Mr. Hatch was born in the town of Hebron 86 years ago, being the last of a family of 11 children born to Wate and Martha Hatch. He married Emeline Russell of Hebron and to them were born five children.
About 50 years ago they removed to the farm now occupied by George Mahaffy, and have since resided in Salem.
Besides the widow he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Rouse of Cambridge, Mrs. E. H. Creighton, Mrs. Emma Flower and Miss Delia Hatch of this village.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late home, the Rev. Charles T. White of Hebron officiating, with interment in Evergreen cemetery.
