February 14, 1932 ~ August 19, 2011
Betty L. Wilson passed away on Aug. 19, 2011 at Peace Health Southwest Medical Center, Vancouver, Washington from acute cardiopulmonary arrest.
Betty was born on Feb. 14, 1932 at home in Grassy Township, Illinois to Loice and Wardner Deming. She was raised in southern Illinois with one sister, Janie and two brothers, Jay and James. In high school, Betty played softball and basketball.
She married Riley Wilson Nov. 4, 1976. Riley was influential in Betty's life, she grew, blossomed and became more balanced because of his love and compassion. Betty was blessed with four children, her daughter, Vickie; and Riley's three children, Daniel, Lisa and Kevin. They were also blessed with seven grandchildren.
Her primary occupation was a waitress and was employed for 30 years at many restaurants in the Portland/Vancouver area.
Betty enjoyed recreational walking and found great pleasure by relaxing and watching sports on TV or in person. At the top of her list were MLB, NBA and NFL. Travel was a luxury for Betty and something that she took great pleasure in doing. Some of her favorite vacations included a trip to England, Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway, Indio and Palm Springs, CA and the Oregon coast.
Betty especially enjoyed time with her pets. One of her favorites was Max, a boxer, her best friend for eight years. In retirement, she found new pleasure in camping, reading books, magazines and her flower garden.
Betty is survived by her child, Vickie; Riley's children, Daniel, Kevin and Lisa; seven grandchildren, April, Erin, Christopher, Ashley, Michael, Stephen and Rachel; and four great-grandchildren, Sierra, Hannah, Emalyn and Evangaline.
A Celebration of Life was held at Vancouver Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 26, 2011. Betty was laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR.
