Alvis Buchanan, 92, of Nebo died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at his home. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a former truck driver for Brown Strip Mines.

Services: Funeral services will be held at noon today in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville. Burial: Military services will be conducted by the Hopkins County Honor Guard in New Beulah Cemetery, Beulah. Visitation: From 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Alvis Buchanan, 92, of Nebo, Ky. passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at his home.

He was born on August 8, 1919 in Madisonville, KY. to the late John and Alsie Buchanan. He was a United States Army veteran serving during WWII. He was formerly a truck driver for Brown Strip Mines and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Mae Buchanan, and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by two nieces, Dorcas Brown of Dawson Springs, KY. and Inez Cheek of Ohio; and his caregiver, Jolinda Hart.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday August 30, 2011 in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Wayne Lamb officiating. Military services will be conducted graveside by the Hopkins County Honor Guard. Burial will be in New Beulah Cemetery in Beulah, KY. Pallbearers will be James Hart, Jerry Hancock, Larry Hancock, Billy Felker, Greg Cheek and Allen Cheek.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home.
