She spent 22 years at the University of Richmond from 1949 to 1971, first as a physical education instructor, then as an associate professor and lastly as the women's athletic director. She was inducted into the University of Richmond Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
In addition to her love of all sports, "MJM" was an avid traveler and accomplished knitter. She enjoyed bicycling on the Ocean City boardwalk, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles and taking her daily dip in the ocean at the 28th Street beach.
Survivors include nieces, great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law,
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Anna M. Magness, and her brother, J. Paul Miller.
A memorial service was July 8 at The Shores of Wesley Manor, Ocean City, followed by private interment at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro.
