Born at the Adams plantation "Live Oak" near Horrell Hill in Richland County SC, she died at her home near Hopkins in Richland County, SC. She was the 9th child of SC Governor James Hopkins Adams and his wife Jane. As a teenager, Carrie survived Sherman's troops in Feb 1865 by hiding in the plantation house's attic. She was married Nov. 23, 1876 to Louis LeConte. In 1880, she helped move her family from her beloved South Carolina to Colorado to help with his health, though he lived only 3 more years. As a 32-year-old woman in Pueblo, Colorado, in 1883, her husband died on Feb 26th, her son – her 3rd child – was born on the 27th, and she got them all, including her husband's casket, on a train back to South Carolina on the 28th! In 1903, she bought some land and built a country home near Hopkins SC that her sister-in-law, Eva LeConte, affectionately named "Alwehav."
