US Congressman. Born in Cheshire, Connecticut, he was the first school teacher in Coventry, New York in 1799. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1805 and commenced to practice law in Unadilla, New York. He was elected judge of the court of common pleas in Otsego County and served as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1827. In 1833, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. He died at age 74 in Unadilla, New York.
