Kenneth Mandel, 90, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Born in Portland, OR on July 11, 1921, he was the son of the late Arthur & Linnette Mandel.

He lived most of his life in Portland, as well as 33 years in the home he built in the mountains of Welches, OR. He graduated from Washington High School and from Oregon State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, and served as a Draftsman, drawing plans for construction work and making maps for the military. He was an engineer at Pennwalt Chemical for more than 25 years.

He was a member of the Milwaukie Elks Lodge, the Oregon State Campus Club, and a regular at the Milwaukie Center and the Oregon City Community Center. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and photography. More recently, he enjoyed jazz dancing. But his all-time favorite activity was hosting family get-togethers at his mountain home in Welches.

He is survived by his sons, Mark, Scott, and Doug Mandel; daughter Laurie Tardiff; sister Jean Swanson; grandchildren Michael Tardiff, Daniel Tardiff, Jenny Tardiff, Eric Mandel, Bryan tardiff, Lindsay Mandel, Nicole Mandel, and Megan Mandel; great grandchildren Dylan Tardiff, Michelle Ceciliano, Alejandro Tardiff, and Joseph Ceciliano; niece Janice Eklem; and nephews James Christensen, Brian Swanson, and Kevin Swanson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marian Forrister.

Burial at Willamette National Cemetery will be private.
