British Army Brigadier General. Born in Fifeshire, Scotland, in 1710 or 1719, Forbes served as a Brigadier General or Commander in His Majesty's forces during the French and Indian Wars. He commanded the 1757 expedition against Fort Duquesne. Along the way to the fort he built "Forbes Road" a wagon road that cut across the Alleghenies and was later a chief highway of Western immigration. In 1758 the French surrendered to Forbes and the settlement of Fort Duquesne was later changed to Fort Pitt, which is now Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
