US Congressman. Elected to represent West Virginia's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1873 to 1875. He was defeated in 1874. Also served as Mayor of Morgantown, West Virginia, from 1866 to 1869, Presidential Elector from West Virginia in 1868, Delegate to the West Virginia State Constitutional Convention in 1871, Member of the West Virginia State House of Delegates from 1879 to 1883, and District Judge from 1888 until his death in 1900.
