Was thrice married:
19 Jun 1901 married Jane "Jennie" Carmode Going. Jennie died in 1936. in 1938 he married Vera Going, who was 24 years his junior (don't yet know the relationship between his two wives). Vera died in 1949 and in 1950 he married Sylva Bell Winholtz, a woman 30 years his junior.

NORMAN HARRIS FUNERAL TO BE HELD TUESDAY

Services for Norman Dwight Harris, 88, co-founder and first chairman of Northwestern university's political science department, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Rosehill cemetery chapel. He died Thursday in his home in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Prof. Harris, who was an authority of international law and diplomacy, was the son of Norman W. Harris, founder of the Harris Trust & Savings bank, 115 Monroe st.

FOUNDER OF DEPARTMENT
After studying at the University of Chicago and universities in London, Paris, Rome, and Berlin, he became a professor of history at Northwestern in 1898. He and his father founded the political science department there in 1915.

Prof. Harris was chairman of the department until 1928 when he retired from teaching to travel and finish several literary works. He was the author of several books and magazine articles on history and politics.
Harris hall, a four story classroom building on the campus, was named for his father.

TRUSTEE OF COLLEGE
Prof. Harris was a member of a committee which gathered data in 1917-18 for the World War I peace conference. He was a trustee of the National College of Education in Evanston from 1949 to 1954.

Surviving are his widow, Sylva and two brothers, Albert W., retired chairman of the Harris Trust & Savings bank, and Stanley G., present chairman of the bank.
