U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to Schenectady, New York, in 1758, he engaged in Indian trading and farming. During the American Revolutionary War, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in a Regiment of the New York Militia. After the war, he entered politics serving as a member of the New State Assembly, (1777-80, 86, 90). In 1791, he was elected as a Pro-Administration candidate to the Second and Third Congresses, serving until 1795. After leaving Congress, he was a member of the board of trustees of Union College, (1795-18090 and served in the New York State Senate, (1797-1804).
