US Congressman. Born in Bristol County, Massachusetts, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1769 and practiced law in Ballston Spa, New York. During the Revolutionary War, he served in the 12th Regiment of the New York Militia and after the war, was assessor commissioner of roads for the district of Ballston (1779-80, 1783-84). He was postmaster of Ballston in 1784, a member of the committee of safety of Albany County, supervisor of Saratoga County, (1790-91,1799) and moderator of the first board of supervisors of Saratoga County in 1791. In 1791, he was appointed judge of the court of common pleas, was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1792-95) and a delegate to the New York State constitutional convention in 1801. In 1803, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighth Congress, serving until 1805. After his term he was surrogate of Saratoga County from 1808, until his death in Ballston Spa, New York.
