Hungarian Monarch. Descendant of the Arpadi dynasty, son of Andrew I called the Catholic, and nephew of Saint Stephen of Hungary, he became king at the death of Bela I (1063). His reign was characterized by disputes with the Emperor Henry IV of Franconia and by conflicts with his own cousins, sons of his predecessor which ended with his defeat at Mogyoród (1074) and his imprisonment. After a period of exile he attempted to retake the crown (1085) but without success. Salomon of Hungary was killed in a battle against the armies of Constantinople.
