US Congressman. He graduated from Columbia College, Manhattan, New York City, New York in 1903, from the Columbia Law School in 1906. Admitted to the New York State Bar Association, he commenced a practice in New York. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War I, serving in the Motor Transport Corps. He was elected as a Republican to represent New York's 21st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1921 to 1923. As a Congressman, he was influential in the passing of the first-ever anti-lynching legislation. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, represented the Ford Motor Company in a libel lawsuit in 1927 and was director of United Airlines from 1934 to 1961.
