U.S. Congressman. The son of US Senator Nathan Fellows Dixon, he attended Plainfield Academy Connecticut, graduated from Brown University Rhode Island, in 1833, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1837 and commenced to practice law in Westerly, Rhode Island. He engaged in banking, was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives, (1841-49) and was a member of the Governor’s council in 1842. In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was again a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives, (1851-54, 58-62). In 1863, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1871. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives, (1871-77) and resumed the practice of law, until his death at age 68.
