Crimean War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Seaman in the Royal Navy. On November 5, 1854, at the Battle of Inkermann Crimea, Seaman Scholefield with two others manned a Lancaster Battery parapet and held the Russians at bay with steady rifle fire, while his colleagues below reloaded and passed rifles up. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the War Victoria. He later achieved the rank of Quartermaster and died at age 29 while out to sea on board the HMS Albion.
