Recipient of the British Victoria Cross War Medal. Nettleton served as a Wing Commander with the 44th Squadron of the Royal Air Force. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for service over Augsberg, Germany, on April 17, 1942. He died on July 13, 1943, when his plane was shot down and it crashed into the Bay of Biscay.
