World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Karbartir Village, India, he served as a Naik in the 1st Battalion, 39th Garhwal Rifles, Indian Army Corps, British Expeditionary Force. On the night of November 23, 1918, near Festubert, France, Darwan Sing Negi's battalion was engaged in retaking and clearing the enemy out of the line trenches. During this action, although Darwan Sing Negi was wounded three times, he was the first to push round each successive traverse, in the face of severe fire from bombs and rifles at the closest range. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was promoted to the rank of Subedar and awarded the Victoria Cross on December 4, 1914. He died at age 67 in Kafarteer Village, Uttar Pradesh, India.
