Bhandari Ram
Birth: Jul. 24, 1919
Death: May 19, 2002

World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sepoy in the 10th Baluchi Regiment, Indian Army. At Arakan, Burma, November 22, 1944, Sepoy Ram was in the leading section on an attack on a Japanese bunker positions. When his platoon was pinned down by enemy fire, he crawled up to the Japanese machine gun and was seriously wounded. He then threw a grenade into the position, killing the enemy crew and continued crawl to the next post. Inspired by his example, the platoon rushed up and captured the position. For outstanding gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in March, 1945 and later achieved the rank of Subadar (Captain). (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
