World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, he served as a Drummer Lance Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, British Army. On October 23, 1914, near Ypres, Belgium, Drummer Kenny rescued wounded men on five occasions under very heavy enemy fire. He also saved two machine-guns by carrying them out of action and on numerous occasions he conveyed urgent messages under very dangerous circumstances over fire-swept ground. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross and later obtained the rank of Drum Major. He died at age 55 in Hammersmith, England.
