Thomas was a Civil War veteran, enlisting July 25, 1861 and discharged July 2, 1862. He was a member of Company K, 23rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry. He lived in Philadelphia and worked as a fisherman/oysterman. His wife's name was Josephine Williams and they had 13 children, many of whom did not survive childhood.
Note: 1900 Census has Thomas's birth as August 1844, but this would have made him 56 at the time of his death. The death notice says 59.
Note: Thomas was reinterred in Lawnview Cemetery from Odd Fellows Cemetery on 11 Aug 1951. Prior to that, he was held at the Sixth Street Union Vault. He was buried at Odd Fellows in a plot with Pearson L. Fry, Lily Fry, William Whelan, Elwood J. Steelman, and Elizabeth Whalen.
