US Congressman. Born in New York Mills, New York, he attended the Whitestown Seminary in Whitesboro and graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton in 1849. Following independent law study he was admitted to the bar in 1855 and opened a legal practice in New York City, which he would maintain for the rest of his life while making his home in Bergen, New Jersey. He served as superintendent of public schools in Bergen (1866 to 1870), on the Jersey City board of police commissioners (1874 to 1876), and as a member of the State House of Assembly (1877). A Republican, Brigham was elected to represent New Jersey's 7th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives and served one term, from 1879 to 1881. After failing to win reelection in 1880 he withdrew from politics and returned to his Manhattan law practice. He died in Jersey City.
