US Congressman. Served as a Major in the Seventh Texas Infantry, a Confederate regiment where he was captured at Fort Donelson in 1862 during the Civil War . Elected to represent Texas as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1873 to 1875. Also served as a Justice of the Texas State Supreme Court in 1866, 1882 to 1888.
