He attended Kentucky State College, was a salesman of lubricating oils (1904-07), graduated from Cincinnati Business College in 1907 and was an account auditor in Cincinnati, Ohio (1907-12). Moving to Indiana in 1913, he was chief clerk for the Indiana Refining Company, (1913-18) and a member of the Indiana State House of Representatives (1919-23). In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth, Seventieth, and Seventy-first Congresses, serving until 1931. An unsuccessful for reelection, he was a commercial agent for a trucking line until his death.
