Motion Picture Actor. American-born Chinese actor who was usually cast to play the role of an old, wise asian man, most notably in the "3 Ninjas" movies. Before his break, he worked on the daily "Newsroom" program on KQED, San Francisco's public TV station, 1968-1974, and was one of television's first Chinese American reporters. His first break in films came in the 1984 Chinese Drama "Dim Sum: A Little Bit Of Heart", Followed by the mafia thriller "Year of the Dragon" (1985), then the John Carpenter action comedy "Big Trouble In Little China" (1986) with Kurt Russell, and "Shanghai Surprise" (1986) with Sean Penn and Madonna, then opposite Eddie Murphy in "The Golden Child" (1986), and the 1987 Oscar winner for Best Picture "The Last Emperor." His other notable credits includes another John Carpenter film "Prince of Darkness" (1987), "Bloodsport" (1988) with Jean-Claude Van Damme, the 1990 Sci-Fi horror flic "Tremors" with Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntire, "Mystery Date" (1991), "The Joy Luck Club" (1993), the 1995 crime,thriller "Jade," and his most reprised role in the four "3 Ninjas" movies, with "3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain" (1998) being his last screen appearance.
