Lysander N. Paine was born October 23, 1831, in Provincetown. Lysander Paine was a man of considerable influence in Provincetown. Until recently, his home was a bed and breakfast which bore his name, the Lysander Paine Inn. Among the most notable of his accomplishments, Lysander arranged the acquisition of the property on which the Town Meeting Hall now stands. He was listed in the 1860 and 1880 censuses as a merchant and grocer, respectively. He was the president of the Seaman's Savings Bank. He also began stagecoach service between Provincetown and Orleans, Massachusetts.
