World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant, in 8th Battalion, Victoria Australian Forces. On August 23, 1918, during an assault on the Germans at Chuignes, France, Lieutenant Joynt's company commander was killed. He immediately took charge of the company, dashing out in front of his men, he led a magnificent frontal bayonet attack and secured the critical situation. For gallant leadership, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and promoted Captain.
