US Congressman. Born in South Bend, Indiana, he graduated from Indiana University in 1938, from the same university law school in 1940, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in South Bend, Indiana. With the advent of World War II, he was inducted into the US Army in 1941, attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, serving in England, France and Germany, until 1947. Returning home, he served as a Colonel in the US Army Reserves, was member of board of directors for the Saint Joseph County Department of Public Welfare, as prosecutor of Saint Joseph County, Indiana and as South Bend City Judge. In 1957, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-fifth Congress, serving until 1959. After his term, he resumed the practice of law, was a member of Indiana Air Pollution Control Board, (1979-86) and Indiana Environmental Management Board, (1981-86). At the time of his death, he was the president of the South Bend Redevelopment Commission.
