She was married thirty-nine years to Caltech Professor of Chemical Engineering William H. Corcoran until his death in 1982.
She married Gail Rogers in 1983. Martha was the spirited sister of Barb, Bette, Lois, and Tom.
She graduated from Pasadena City College, then became secretary to Professor Bruce Sage at Caltech, where William fell for her at first sight.
Martha is survived by daughter Sally Corcoran Fisher (Ray), and son Will Corcoran (Barbara). Her six grandchildren - Sally and Ray's Amy (Steve Ramsey), Brian, and Matt; and Will and Leslie's Wiley, Kevin (Jenny), and Conor - loved spending a week individually at her house every summer. With incredible generosity, she funded their college educations. She was also proud great-grandma of Conor's Shelby and (soon to be born) Kevin and Jenny's Kaitlyn.
Martha made friends wherever she went and was known for her generosity and leadership. She was a state badminton champion, president of the Caltech Women's Club, a church deacon, and a very longtime president of the Altadena Women's Golf Club. She won many of her club's golf tournaments.
Martha was the beloved matriarch of the whole family. She truly fit the words, "To know her is to love her." Martha and her family are profoundly grateful to her loving and kind caregivers Lorena and Socorro.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Pierce Brothers, 1136 East Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel.
A graveside service will follow immediately at Rose Hills, Whittier.
