John Jack Moran Jr., age 76, of Plymouth where he has been a resident for 11 years, died Thursday morning, Oct. 6, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Holbrook, MA, he was a son of the late John F. Moran Sr. and Helen (Doble) Moran. He grew up in Marshfield where he spent his youth fishing, clamming and lobstering. He was a high school All American football player. He joined the Navy right out of high school and served during the Korean War aboard the USS Philippines Sea, CV-47. He lived in various towns within MA and for a short time in NY before settling down in Middleboro. At that time he transferred to Navy Reserves where he retired after serving 28 years. After retirement from the Navy he worked for Texaco White Fuel as assistant terminal superintendant of their oil terminal in Boston. After his wife of 42 years died, he moved to Plymouth where he enjoyed weekly cribbage games and visiting with his neighbors. An avid reader and fisherman, he loved spending time on his boat with his children and grandchildren as well as traveling to Florida and Arizona. Three years ago, he fulfilled his dream of traveling to Ireland with his children where they had the opportunity to research his ancestors and see the church where his great grandparents were married.
