U.S. Congressman. During the American Revolutionary War he served as a Captain of the Minutemen for the Charlotte Precinct. After the war, he was a merchant, a member of the New York State Assembly, (1788-92), a delegate to the New York State convention in 1801 and a member of the New York State Senate, (1800-02). In 1803, he was elected to the Eighth Congress and died shortly after taking office at age 55.
