US Congressman. He was also known as H. Casey Young. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but moved with his parents to Byhalia, Mississippi, where the family lived on a farm. He was educated at local schools and was tutored by his father and the cavalry. He eventually attended college at the Marshall Institute in Marshall County, Mississippi, where he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1859 and commenced his practice of law after moving to Memphis, Tennessee. At the outbreak of the American Civil War, he put his law career on hold and decided to serve his country. He joined the Cavalry and served as a Lieutenant Colonel on a brigade staff, and was later promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General with the First Division of Cavalry in 1864. After the war ended in 1865, he continued his law practice and he became interested in politics. He decided to run for public office and won a seat in the United States Congress. A Democrat, he then served Tennessee's 10th District in the United States House of Representatives from 1875 to 1881. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1880. He did, however, run for office for another seat in the United States Congress a couple of years later and was elected. This time he served as a Democrat serving Tennessee's 10th District from 1883 to 1885. While in Congress, he was Chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Interior. After his term ended on March 3, 1885, he was not a candidate for renomination. After his time in politics, he once again returned to his law practice. He passed away in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 70.
