Edward came to England from Prussia about 1860 with his 3 brothers and a sister. His parents were Carl Gottfried Klapper and Mariana (Petschowski) Klapper. He married Sarah Bone on 14 February 1869. He was a confectioner and baker. His wife Sarah is not buried with him. She died in Portsmouth, Hampshire. The cemetery was neglected for a long time. The area of Edward's grave is badly overgrown and ill-kept. Edward and Sarah had 13 children but only 4 lived to adulthood.
