Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He received the award in March 20, 1905 for his actions as a boilermaker on the battleship USS Iowa on January 20, 1905 while at sea. He was one of six sailors on board the vessel who received the Medal of Honor on that day. After immigrating from Ireland and joined the US Navy. He died in Charleston, South Carolina at the age of 72. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Boilermaker Edward Floyd, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession while serving on board the U.S.S. Iowa, at the time of the blowing out of the manhole plate of Boiler D on board that vessel, 25 January 1905." The US Citizenship and Services Field Office in Charleston, South Carolina in named in his honor.
