Kathryn was the second of four children born to Allan Homer and Ethel Clara (Hommer) Day. She married (1) Clarence Willis Barton in 1947 and they were the parents of five children: Joyce M., Marcia Lynn, Mary Louise, Glenna Lee and Carl A. She married (2) Edward Harry Hodge, and (3) Jay Rex Brandt.

Kathryn M. Brandt, 66, of Boone died of a heart ailment Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Park Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, of which she was a member. The body will be cremated and burial of the cremains will be at Berwick Cemetery.
Mrs. Brandt was born in Des Moines and lived here most of her life, moving to Boone six years ago. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jay; three daughters, Mary Stone and Marcia Payton, both of Des Moines, and Joyce Lumadue of Altoona; a son, Carl Barton of Colorado City, Texas; two stepdaughters, Janet Bosma and Rexanne Kendall, both of Ogden; two stepsons, Robert of Shenandoah and Jim of Boone; her mother, Ethel Day of Altoona; three brothers, Dennis Day of Des Moines, Homer Day of Garwin and Martin Day of Amelia, VA.; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
