Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company D, 1st Connecticut Calvary. His citation reads "For gallantry in capturing a Black Flag and its bearer from Lt. Gen. Jubal A. Early's (C.S.A.) command, at Back Creek Valley, near North Mountain, W.Va., 31 July 1864."
