Ersilia "Elsie" Cocco was born in Ururi, Campobasso, Molise, Italy to Maria Giuseppa Primiani and Giovanni Cocco.
The family was Arbereshe, the descendents of Albanians who fled from the Ottoman Turks to Italy in the 15th Century.
Elsie's siblings included four sisters: Rachelina, Amalia, Vincenza, Adelina and one brother named Nicola.
Elsie immigrated to the United States in 1919 with her sister, Vincenza. Their sister, Amalia Cocco Lacirignola was already in New York City. Shortly after arrival, Elsie married Filippo Giuliano (later changed to Philip Juliano) and her sister, Vincenza, married Philip's brother, Frank. In 1920 the two Giuliano couples were living in Kentucky. Also living with them were their young nephew and niece, Joseph and Angelina Lacirignola. The men were working in the coal mines.
By 1930, the Juliano and Giuliano families had moved to upstate New York, near Buffalo.
Elsie and Philip's children were: Mary North, Ula Bruscia, Quinda Eusanio, Inez Williams, Antoinette Bergeron, Fred, Elmer, Albert, Arthur, Henry, Richard, Robert and the late Nicholas.
Elsie's husband, Philip, died in 1941.
