Charity Amos Gray, 91, of the Wentworth Home, formerly of Dover, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2011, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.

Charity was born on Oct. 29, 1919, in Wood County, W. Va., the daughter of the late John S. and Iris (Bailey) Amos.

Charity attended nursing school at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Parkersburg, W. Va., graduating as a registered nurse. She married her husband, retired Air Force Maj. William P. Gray on May 18, 1945. In her later years, she worked in the cafeteria at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and volunteered at the St. Thomas Aquinas Bingo night and at the Dover Food Pantry.

She is survived by her children, John W. Gray of East Moline, Ill., Mark A. Gray and his wife, Susan, of Eliot, Maine, James P. Gray and his wife, Joanne, of Rochester, Jean A. Jones of Waltham, Mass., and Joseph A. Gray and his fiance, Carole Warren of Alton; her sister, Mary Wigal of Parkersburg, W. Va.; and her 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Charity was predeceased by her husband, William, in May 1998; her siblings, Charles Berkley Amos, Roger Amos, Winifred Rose and Jean Amos, and her grandson, Patrick W. Gray.
