Indians Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. He fought in the Indian Wars, Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, Mexican Intervention, and World War I. His father, Brigadier General George Nelson Morgan, was commander of the 1st Minnesota Volunteers during the Civil War, and became an American citizen. George Horace Morgan, his first son, graduated from the US Military Academy, Class of 1880. He joined the 9th US Cavalry in Arizona, and in 1882, won the Medal of Honor fighting the Apaches at the Battle of Big Dry Wash, Arizona Territory. He was also wounded there by an Apache marksman, and carried the bullet near his heart for the rest of his life. He served in the Spanish American War, Phillippine Insurrection, Mexican Intervention, and World War I. Retiring in 1920, he settled in San Diego, CA, where his wife died in 1924, then moved to Washington, DC where he died when the bullet he received in 1882 moved and struck his heart; he was 93 years old. The US Army honored him in 1998 by naming Camp Morgan in Bosnia after him.
