Obituary of Mrs. Wolcott published in the Portland Observer, Wednesday, August 24, 1898.
"Adeline Wolcott, relict of the late Chauncey S. Wolcott, died at her home on the west side at five o'clock last Saturday evening, aged 69 years.
Nervous exhaustion is given as the cause of her death.
Adeline Brockway was born in Albany, N.Y., in June, 1830, where she resided until about 12 years of age, when the family removed to Cambria, Niagara county. Here she continued to reside until her marriage to the late C. S.
Wolcott, when they went to Lockport.
They resided there a couple of years and then removed to Lansing, Mich., coming from there to Portland about 32 years
ago, and where deceased has continued to reside ever since, her husband having died very suddenly about eight years ago.
Since the death of her husband Mrs. Wolcott has made her home with Dr. Alton, where she has looked after the
management of the house and the welfare of her granddaughter, Ethel Alton, in whom she was all wrapped up and for whom she seemed solely to live.
Deceased had a host of friends in Portland and the surrounding country, for she was kind and sympathetic as a neighbor and friend and many have come under her good works; as a wife and mother she was indulgent, and her self denial
for those she loved was a matter of comment, not only by those who knew her best but by all her acquaintances. Her religious predilection was with the Episcopal church and in which she had been a communicant for several years.
The funeral was conducted from her late home on Monday afternoon of this week, Rev. Millard, assisted by Rev. Terborg, conducting the services, which were simple, including the burial service of the Episcopal church, singing and prayer. These services were attended by a large number of the friends and neighbors of deceased; in fact the capacity of the house was not sufficient to accommodate all who were present."

Interment was made in Portland cemetery by the side of those of the family who had preceded her--husband and daughter--
and of which she was the last member.
