"Ellen (Mema) Read-Smith died at a local care home Monday. She was 91.
Mrs. Smith was a Placerville resident for the past year and a half. She worked for the El Dorado Superintendent of Schools Office in the 1950's. She was then an executive secretary at Aerojet General (Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, CA) and at the state capitol in the 1960's and was head secretary at American Tread Company when she retired in 1972.
She spent most of the time at the waters edge, be it ocean or river.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Read of Pollock Pines, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Read and daughter Ardell Hord.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Christian Life Center in Pollock Pines, Pastor MArk Ray will officiate.
Arrangements are by Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home."
