Western Frontier Figure. Young western rancher who was murdered during the Iron Mountain Range War. At the time he was wearing his father's coat and hat and was riding his father's favorite horse. The ranch of Kels Nickell, was the only sheepherder in the area and it was believed that the killer mistook Willie for his father. Victor Miller, a neighbor who was involved in a feud with Kels over the sheep being in Wyoming cattle country, was initially suspected of the crime. Ultimately suspicion turned to Tom Horn because of his involvement in the range war and prior killings. Deputy United States Marshal Joe LeFors induced incriminating remarks from Horn. It was these remarks witnessed by a deputy sheriff which would convict Horn and he was hanged on November 20, 1903 for the killing of Willie Nickell.
