Delaware Governor. Born as Jehu Davis, he was a successful planter and a member of the Delaware Militia during the American Revolution. As a Politian, he was a justice of the peace for 14 years and served in the Delaware General Assembly, (1776-89). When Delaware President Thomas Collins died in office, the Delaware General Assembly appointed Davis as the 9th President of Delaware, serving March 29, 1789 to June 2, 1789. During his short term, George Washington was inaugurated as the first President of the United States. After leaving office, he served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas, (1789-92) and as a justice of the peace from 1793, until his death at age 64.
