William was the son of Gustav Nepper and Matilda Eschmann. Prior to 1881 he married his wife Amelia and they had at least nine children: Elsa, Robert, Mabel, Harrison, Matilda, William, Juanita, Margaret, and Amelia. The 1900 Census listed his occupation as clerk. William died of consumption at the age of 43. He was cremated and his ashes were interred in the same grave as his father.
