Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company G, 39th Illinois Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on August 16, 1864 at Deep Run, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag. He was wounded in the shoulder during this action. He was killed in action at Petersburg on 28 August 1864."
