The daughter of Samuel Baker and Eliza Gamble, she was most likely to have been born in Frederick County, Virginia as Rappahannock was not formed until 1833. She was the second wife of Benjamin Amos Alderson. They married in St. Charles on 23 Dec. 1847 when he was a widower with young children after his first wife had died the previous March. Four of those children would die in March and April of 1848.

Mrs. Mary Alderson, wife of Maj. B. A. Alderson and a most estimable lady died Thursday evening July 13th at ? o'clock at the age of 72 years. The funeral services were held at the Jefferson street Presbyterian church on Saturday, July 15th at 3 o'clock P. M. and the remains were interred in the city cemetery. Mrs. Alderson was an old resident of St. Charles and a christian lady with many lovable and admirable traits of character. Of late years she had been practically an invalid. Most of her sons who are grown are located in Kansas City.

She was the mother of eight known children.
