An alternative birth date has been given as 29 FEB 1864.
On an 1880 census record, it shows his residence with another family - Isaac and Elizabeth Weaver in Concord Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, working as a farm laborer. He was 16 years old and is not shown on the 1880 census record for his parents, Charles and Lovina Criger, which validates that he was living away from home in 1880. Henry grew up in the Elkhart area. He met and married Eliza Everest November 12, 1885 in Elkhart, Indiana.
Henry David Criger and Eliza Everest were married by a Rev. Biddle, with Sarah Biddle as a witness. Henry and Eliza had two children: Earl L. Criger and Mary Ellen Criger. On his marriage application, his occupation is given as farmer and Eliza is shown to be a housewife. When first married, they lived in Elkhart and then moved to South Bend, Indiana. From a 1900 census, it states that he became a lineman and perhaps lived in Petosky, Michigan, where his daughter Mary Ellen Criger (Ella) lived. She was married to Edward Harrison Light. On a 1910 Census, it gives Henry and Eliza's place of residence as Resort, Emmet, Michigan. Henry and Eliza later divorced. He stayed with his daughter, Mary Ellen Criger Light for a while (or with Mary Ellen Criger Light's son, Roland Light and his wife Helen - it is not clear exactly who he stayed with) but they did not get along, so he packed his bags and went to California, perhaps to be close to his youngest brother, Elmer Floyd Criger, who lived in Oakland, California.
Henry David Criger died from injuries he suffered when struck by a car while living in Oakland, Alameda County, California. He was a pedestrian and had the right of way. He died in Oakland, California. He is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, Alameda County, California.
