US Congressman. He graduated from the law department of Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1891, and that same year became a practicing attorney in Hartsville. There he furthered his political ambitions as editor of a local newspaper. From 1895 to 1899 he was a member of the State House of Representatives, serving as Speaker in 1897; he was also State Superintendent of Public Instruction (1899 to 1903) and Chairman of the Democratic Party's State Executive Committee. Fitzpatrick was elected to represent Tennessee's 4th District in the Fifty-eighth Congress and served one term, from 1903 to 1905. He was not a candidate for renomination and held no other public office before his death in Nashville at 39. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
